Job Happiness: Should You Stay or Should You Go?

According to a recent Harris Interactive Poll, 41% of employees are not satisfied with their job. Additionally, 42% of those surveyed said they are struggling with job "burnout" while 33% of workers think they are in a "dead-end job."

Interestingly, younger workers experience more work burnout compared to older workers. Forty-seven percent of workers ages 18-24 report feeling burnout while 28% of older workers feel burnout.

Many employees across the country constantly wrestle with the question about their job, "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" I was quoted in the following Wall Street Journal article that sheds some light on this difficult question:
"First Job Blues - Adjust or move on?"

In the Pursuit of Job Happiness

Job hopping is on the rise! In the past, men and women went to work for a company, and they stayed there. It was not odd for people to get hired out of college and work until their gold watch retirement party. Those days are long gone, and the "job hopper" is becoming more prevalent. Today, employees are lured constantly by better-paying jobs, better career opportunities, or greater chances for professional development.

The following facts show how workers are exercising their freedom in the job market:
--The median number of years the average American worker has been with their current employer is 3.5 years.

--Workers 45-54 years old worked for the same employer three times longer than those between 25-34.

--Managers and professionals have the highest tenure rate, an average of 4.8 years.
